A Major Blow to Welsh Employment: Consumer Energy Solutions Enters Administration, Costing Hundreds of Jobs
The Welsh economy has taken a significant hit as Consumer Energy Solutions (CES), a prominent employer in the region, has entered administration, resulting in the loss of nearly 300 jobs. This announcement has sent shockwaves through the workforce, leaving many employees in a state of turmoil and distress.
CES, with its presence in Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf, has been a significant player in the energy sector, but now faces a challenging future. The company's website announced the appointment of administrators and the immediate cessation of trading, leaving employees and creditors in a state of uncertainty.
A staff member, speaking to WalesOnline, expressed the profound impact of the news, stating, 'I am just beside myself along with my colleagues.' The company's inability to complete further work for customers is a stark reminder of the gravity of the situation.
The administration process is now in the hands of James Saunders and Michael Lennon of KR8 Advisory Limited, who will be in direct contact with creditors and employees to outline the next steps. The notice emphasizes that the administration does not affect other companies within the City Energy Group.
The job losses are attributed to the termination of the UK Government-backed energy scheme ECO4, which CES operated. This scheme, set to end this year, played a crucial role in assisting homeowners with energy upgrades. The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero has confirmed that the ECO and GBIS schemes were not cost-effective, redirecting funds towards the Warm Homes Plan, a public investment of nearly £15 billion to address fuel poverty.
As CES transitions into administration, the focus shifts to supporting employees and creditors through this challenging period. The administration process will determine the future of the company and the fate of its dedicated workforce.
