UK-Med, a global leader in emergency medical response, is on a mission to save lives and strengthen healthcare systems worldwide. With a rich history spanning three decades, UK-Med has grown from a small volunteer group to a respected organization, responding to crises in Ukraine, Gaza, and beyond. At the heart of this mission is the UK-Med Register, a network of over 1,000 skilled professionals ready to deploy at a moment's notice.
But here's where it gets controversial: UK-Med is now seeking a Data Manager to join this elite team. This role is not for the faint-hearted, as it requires full-time commitment and the ability to deploy to high-pressure humanitarian settings for 6-8 weeks at a time. Are you up for the challenge?
As the Data Manager, you'll be the backbone of UK-Med's emergency medical responses. Your primary role is to ensure high-quality data management, enabling evidence-based decisions and supporting clinical teams. You'll act as the go-to person for all data needs, developing robust processes for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Your key responsibilities include designing data collection tools, leading the implementation of standard operating procedures, and providing technical support to ensure consistent data flows. You'll also conduct detailed health data analysis, prepare data summaries, and participate in meetings to continuously improve health information systems.
And this is the part most people miss: the Data Manager role extends beyond data management. You'll also support HR processes for field data teams, ensuring recruitment, induction, and evaluation are aligned with UK-Med's standards.
The ideal candidate for this role brings a unique blend of technical expertise, emergency response experience, and a deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian values. You should have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field, proficiency in statistical methods and database management, and strong analytical skills. Knowledge of data protection principles in humanitarian contexts is a must, along with excellent communication skills in English, with additional languages being an advantage.
In terms of experience, a minimum of three years in data management, preferably in humanitarian or health-emergency settings, is essential. You should demonstrate the ability to support multiple facilities or field hospitals with efficient data systems. Strong organizational skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset are also key attributes.
The terms and conditions for this role are as follows:
- Remuneration: Up to £3,500 per month, depending on the response location and experience.
- Deployment Duration: Typically 6-8 weeks per deployment, with longer availability highly desirable.
- Working Hours: Full time, including evenings and weekends during emergency operations.
- Annual Leave: Equivalent to 33 days per year, with an uplift where leave cannot be taken during deployments.
- Clearances: All deployments require medical fitness clearance and comprehensive vetting, including DBS/police checks and sanctions screening.
If you meet the criteria and are passionate about making a difference in global humanitarian emergencies, we encourage you to apply. Submit your CV and a supporting letter through UK-Med's online portal. Remember, this is a rolling recruitment process, so early submission is beneficial.
