A recent motorcycle gathering in Melaka has sparked a heated debate, leaving a trail of complaints and a divided community. The roar of thousands of RXZ bikes echoed through the historic city, raising questions about the balance between economic benefits and the well-being of locals and tourists alike.
The two-day event, "RXZ Members Ride Edition Melaka 3.0," attracted over 30,000 motorcycle enthusiasts, but it also disrupted the peace and tranquility of the city. Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong highlighted the concerns of residents, stating that the excessive noise, especially late at night, had become a form of pollution. He added that some riders' disregard for traffic rules and their dangerous racing on public roads endangered other road users.
"The negative impression left by the large motorcycle groups could potentially damage Melaka's reputation as a tourism destination," Khoo said. While supporting events that boost the local economy, he emphasized the need for careful planning, especially when dealing with large-scale gatherings.
But here's where it gets controversial... Melaka tourism and heritage committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman defended the event, arguing that it shouldn't be judged based on the actions of a few irresponsible individuals. He highlighted the economic benefits, stating that the program brought revenue to small businesses, hawkers, hotels, and homestay operators across the state.
"No approval was given for illegal or dangerous activities," Abdul Razak stressed, adding that the state government had coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure monitoring and enforcement.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh revealed plans for an even bigger gathering, the Special Edition RXZ Mega Gathering Melaka 2026, as part of the Visit Melaka Year 2.0 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026 initiatives. He promised wider and more structured convoy routes, integrating the event with key tourism areas across the state.
