A true legend has left us, and his impact on the game of baseball is undeniable. Denny McLain, a former teammate and friend of Mickey Lolich, has shared his thoughts on the late baseball great, highlighting their intense rivalry and mutual respect.
For eight glorious years, McLain and Lolich were teammates, united by a common goal: to bring a World Series championship to their team. But beneath the camaraderie, a fierce competition burned bright.
"It was an intense rivalry, a battle of egos," McLain recalls. "We both wanted to be the best, to be that number one pitcher. And let me tell you, Mickey had an arm that was out of this world. He could pitch day in, day out, and never show any signs of fatigue. Unbelievable!"

Yet, despite his impressive stats and three-time All-Star status, Lolich has never been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame."
McLain believes this is a grave injustice, and he's not alone. Many fans and experts agree that Lolich's contributions to the game deserve recognition.
"There's no reason why Mickey shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame. His career WAR, his consistency, and his impact on the game are undeniable. It's a baffling omission."
As we reflect on Lolich's life and career, we're left with a sense of what could have been. McLain and Lolich had plans to reunite for the 60th anniversary of their World Series win, but sadly, it wasn't meant to be.
