China 2 Stun New Zealand, March into the Semis: A Triumph of Resilience and Development
The Chinese women's rugby sevens team, China 2, has achieved a remarkable feat at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament, securing a spot in the semifinals after a stunning victory over the New Zealand Women’s 7s development side.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the team, which is using the tournament as a crucial development opportunity while gaining valuable exposure to high-intensity sevens rugby in Fiji.
Former New Zealand men’s 7s representative Rocky Khan, who is now coaching the Chinese team, expressed his pride and admiration for the players' resilience and growth.
"I’m just really proud of the girls. China 2 is our development team, and the whole experience here in Fiji is invaluable for us. To come and play rugby in such a competitive environment, and to experience the Fijian culture and rugby culture, is a learning experience for us, and this win is just a bonus," Khan said.
Despite the physical demands of the tournament, including the heat and pressure, the team has shown remarkable composure to reach the last four.
"We’re in the semi-final now, so that’s a massive win in itself. We’ll focus on recovery, make sure the girls get a good sleep, and hopefully we can come back and put in a good performance tomorrow," Khan added.
The Coral Coast 7s tournament continues at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, and fans can watch the action LIVE on FBC Sports. For those who can't make it to the park, the best of Fiji's rugby action can be streamed anytime, anywhere on VITI+ (https://www.viti.plus/).
